Working through Wireless Philadelphia with funding provided by the Philadelphia Workforce Development Corporation, we have been able to offer graduates of our EARN Center who stay on the job for six months the Wireless Philadelphia package (free laptop and wireless Internet for one year) as an job retention incentive. The opportunity for our program customers to access wireless technology and better utilize the resources available on the Internet has not only expanded their capacity for personal growth, but has served as a strong motivator for employment success. Wireless Philadelphia has worked closely with us to make the project work. |

Technology presents both unprecedented opportunities and myriad challenges – particularly when it comes to inclusion. As the world is moving more and more to a technology-based infrastructure, we are experiencing what happens in a digitally divided community: students lose their competitive edge, workers face barriers to applying for jobs, and families have diminishing access to services many of us take for granted. Fortunately for Philadelphia – our people, our businesses, and our economy – Wireless Philadelphia is successfully championing the digital inclusion cause…which is critical, because their success matters to our competitiveness today, and in the future. |

Comment: |
The Recovery & Education Centers (a division of the Wedge Medical Center) provide recovery-based services for individuals who experience psychiatric and co-occuring disorders. Wireless Philadelphia has provided us with laptops for our three day programs, which we are now using to train our program members in computer skills, as part of their rehabilitation & recovery processes. We are developing a "laptop lending library", where members can borrow a laptop for a project related to furthering their educational or occupational goals. We will also be awarding some of the laptops as "Recovery Awards" for individuals who progress significantly in their recovery. We would like to thank the staff of Wireless Philadelphia, along with the Department of Behavioral Health, for providing this unique opportunity for our program members. They will be entering the workforce or academic world fully prepared to utilize the newest technologies and internet resources. |

We have been working with Wireless Philadelphia on several fronts, including developing their brand, website and collateral. I can honestly say that are one of the most passionate and hard working groups we have ever worked with, and I am as proud today to be partnering with them and standing beside them, despite the negativity often surrounding the initiative, as I was the very first day we were awarded the contract. And each partner and employee at our company feels exactly the same way. |
