HOW TO CONNECT

Digital Impact Group does not own or operate Philadelphia's Wi-Fi Network. On June 17, 2008, network ownership was transferred from EarthLink to Network Acquisition Company, a local company with a strong networking and telecommunications background. The wireless service is now free where available to anyone who can access it. However, there is no technical support for users of the free network. As a courtesy, instructions for connecting to the free network are included below.

FORMER EARTHLINK CUSTOMERS (INCLUDING DIGITAL INCLUSION)


Former EarthLink Wi-Fi customers can connect to the free network using the signal boosters provided by EarthLink (PePWave or PePLink), but the devices must be reconfigured first. These instructions and necessary files should be printed and downloaded prior to the update process, as users will not be connected to the Internet during the update process.

  1. After connecting your signal booster device to your computer, open your web browser and type 192.168.20.1 in the address bar. You should see a screen similar to the one below.

  2. Click "Advanced Config".

  3. Click "Firmware Upgrade" on the Advanced Configuration screen, and make sure your firmware is upgraded to version 6.5.41:

    If your firmware is already updated to version 6.5.41, skip to step 5. If not, proceed to step 4.

  4. Click here to download the firmware file. Still in the "Firmware Upgrade" section, select "Browse..." next to "Firmware Upload":

    Choose the "fw_060541.bin" file downloaded above and click "Upload". Your CPE will take several minutes to reboot. After reboot, proceed to step 5.

  5. Click here to download the configuration file. Click "Debug" at the top of the screen:

    Verify that your firmware is version 6.5.41. If not, go back to step 4. Scroll to the bottom of the Debug page and click "Click here to upload the configuration file":

    Select "Browse..." next to "Configuration Upload" and choose the "config.bin" file downloaded above. Click "Upload". Once the upload is finished, choose "Connect" at the top of the page and connect to the network.

ALL OTHER USERS

To connect without a signal booster device, simply select "WirelessPhiladelphia" from your computer's list of available networks and start surfing - no login is required.
